I thought it a good idea to catch up with you and see what you are up to since the last time I reviewed a book for you. The Boss and her Billionaire was beautifully written and a wonderful romance story.

Author’s Interview Questions

      1.       Are you famous is the general question I get when family and friends introduces me to their friends. It always left me with a pause as quick comebacks filters through my mind but ending up saying something like ….”Oh gee thanks” and give a shy smile. (a)Does this happen to you and (b) what do you say?

Bahahaha. I write both under my own name and a pseudonym. I do sometimes get this question, but mostly in the “should I have heard of you” form rather than are you famous. I usually say I’m world famous in my street.

      2.       In general do you like to talk about you writing and published books or are you very close-lip about it? If no why?

I love to talk about my published books, but I’m often a bit more hesitant about work in progress. Once it’s contracted I’ll chat all day, but I have a thing about jinxing work until I know it’s actually going to be out there in the world.

      3.   What book/s are you currently writing and what is it about?

I’m currently writing the two follow up titles for The Boss and Her Billionaire. The second (which is currently called Love Lost and Found) is due out from Entangled Publishing this fall and I’m pretty excited about it. It picks up Felicity’s story, who was Michaela’s BFF on board in The Boss and Her Billionaire She was a character I just loved and so had to give her her own book!

Rick McCarthy had everything sorted until his CFO and fiancée Felicity Williams vanishes after an accident. No Felicity means no investors, no business deal, no wedding. Discovering she’s taken work on a cruise ship, Rick is suspicious but determined to bring her home, whatever it takes.
The accident wipes the last five years completely clean for Felicity. Stranded on a deserted Pacific Island with a rich handsome stranger she decides to live out the made-for-Hollywood scenario, only to find Rick is about as far from a stranger as they come. After a trip through The Islands to catch up with the cruise ship and plenty of time to get used to his body, Felicity realizes Rick was right not to confess who he was straight away – she’d have run a mile. But when he reveals what he really needs from her, Felicity must decide whether she can ever trust the man she loves, but can’t remember.

      4.  Why this particular genre? 

       I love contemporary romance. It’s a nice bite sized dip into romance without too many overriding setting or character building things to digest before you get to your happy ever after!

      5.   What inspire or motivate you to write? 

       I guess I kinda just can’t help myself. A couple of writing friends often complain that they’d like to be cured, from this writing bug, but no matter how tough it sometimes is, it’s a passionate love affair with words that always draws me back to the page.

        

      6.   What is the writing process like for you? 

       It’s a job for me. I get up and I write. These days I’m usually always on deadline, but I still have time to sneak in a short story here and there that springs as if from nowhere – usually from a first line that has stuck with me.

      7.       What is the best and/ or worst part of being a writer? 

      Seeing your work in print and hearing that it transported readers to somewhere else!

      8.       Any advice for struggling writers? 

      Four things really. Write. Read. Rewrite. Don’t stop. Seriously, the number of people who have told me they’d like to write a book but never quite get round to it. Obviously there are lots of things to learn and craft to hone, but the most important part is getting words on the page, if you can, everyday.

      9.   What is your favorite genre to read or write? 

      I love contemporary and paranormal romance at the moment.

     10.   Favorite author? 

      

      Love Sarah Mayberry, Ruthie Knox and Nalini Singh.

       

      11.   Do you have a favorite spot to read and write? 

      I have an office I write in. I’ve recently had to install a lock as my Mr One and a Half yanked the cord out of my hard drive and almost lost all my writing! ARG.

      12.   What do you like to do when not writing? 

       

       

      13.   Do you have a bucket list and would you share at least two things on it?

Skydiving, having a bath in warm milk chocolate, trek the Himalayas, dive the Red Sea and travel to the Pyramids. There’s still so much of the world I’d love to see.

      14.   What have you done so far on this list? 

      I have skydived. I tried to get up into the Himalayas but there was some unrest (I was travelling overland from India) so we got turned back. The rest will have to wait its turn.

      15.   Most daring thing or experience you have done you would like to share? 

      My word, I’ve done quite a few things that could be considered foolish rather than daring! Hitchhiking through India and Malaysia springs to mind. I certainly wouldn’t do that now and I’m not sure I’d want to hear about it if my wee ones ever decided they’d give it a go!

It's only happened a couple of times and each time I just responded without thinking: "Kind of, I'm trying to be, let's put it that way". J

2.       In general do you like to talk about your writing and published books or are you very close-lip about it? If no why?

For the most part, I enjoy talking about my books and my experiences publishing.  It really just depends on the people I'm with.  I try to be very careful about not coming off too pushy about trying to sell my books, so if I get the feeling people don't want to hear about it, then I'll share what I do in basic terms and leave it at that.  If encouraged, I could go on for hours.  LOL!

3.       What book/s are you currently writing and what is it about?

I'm working on the first book of a new series.  It's the first time I've ever attempted a series, so I'm very excited!  It's about five friends who are jokingly considered to be the mafia, or Momfia since they're all moms, of their own small town.  Each book will feature one of the friends while they deal with issues as a group and individually and of course, each will find themselves having to figure out their love life.

4.       Why this particular genre?

While I love a wide variety of genres, there's something I've always found soothing about the romance genre.  I've always been a sucker for happy endings.  Since I was a teenager, I've turned to romance novels to put me in a better mood and I hope one day someone can use my books to do the same.

5.       What inspires or motivates you to write?

Since I was a kid, I've had stories rolling around in my head.  Writing out those stories basically keeps me sane as an adult. J

6.       What is the writing process like for you?

It can be a little stressful.  I still have a day job plus I'm married and have two kids, so to say I'm busy would be a little bit of an understatement.  When it comes to writing, I have to try and scrape together whatever time I can find to work.  It can be a little stressful if I'm struggling with a story and I can't devote my full attention to it.

7.       What is the best and/ or worst part of being a writer?

The best part, hands down, is having a reader tell you that they loved your story and that they could really relate to your characters.  The worst, for me, is the balancing act I have to do right now because of how many things I have going on.  I always feel like I'm dropping the ball on something.  But, it's not enough to make me give up. J

8.       Any advice for struggling writers?

Cultivate patience and never stop developing your craft.  You're always waiting for something, get used to it.  And there is always something new to learn and room for improvement.

9.       What is your favorite genre to read or write?

This month, I've been reading a lot of historical romances.  But I also love to read contemporary and paranormal romances.  My favorite to write is contemporary romances because I love taking ordinary people and putting them in extraordinary circumstances.

10.   Favorite author?

Today, it's Christina Dodd.  I'm sure tomorrow it'll be different. ; )

11.   Do you have a favorite spot to read and write?

My favorite spot to write is my little desk that's in my walk-in closet.  My favorite spot to read is on my bed in my room with the door closed, possibly locked depending on what my kids are doing and how good of a book I'm reading. LOL!

12.   What do you like to do when not writing?

Although I don't have a ton of time to do much else, I love all kinds of crafts and spending time with my family.  I'm also a huge New York sports fan.

13.   Do you have a bucket list and would you share at least two things on it?

I don't really have a list, but if I had one, two things that would be on it would be to visit every state in the US and try running a marathon.

14.   What have you done so far on this list? 

I don’t really have an official list, but some of the things I wanted to do at one point that I’ve gotten to do is try archery, finished my Master’s, and completed a half marathon.

15.   Most daring thing or experience you have done you would like to share?

Hmmmm, I’m really not sure.  At this point, I think the most daring thing I’ve done was host a slumber party for my older daughter’s 7^th birthday with 9 seven year olds in a small townhouse and survived with only a couple of emotional scars. ; )

Going After the Heart Blurb

Lizzy Bergstrum thought she finally reached a point in her life when she could honestly say she had it all.  A thriving writing career.  A wonderful daughter.  And a marriage to the love of her life.  But looks can apparently be deceiving because her husband just walked out on her and their eight year old daughter hates her.

Good idea. I’m always up to no good! ;) 

I have been busy putting out 2 Women’s fiction a year as well as 2 in my middle grade series. There is still plenty on my laptop to keep me going for a while. There is always something at that “beat it to a pulp & submit it” stage. I’m currently sitting on eight women’s fiction novels and 4 books in my middle grade series published. One more of each is scheduled for November.

I usually get “This is my friend the famous author.”  I reply with, “Not yet, but thanks.” There is a big misconception about writing.  I try not to give out too many gory details about all the work involved, just that I’m still plugging away every day.

      1.       In general do you like to talk about you writing and published books or are you very close-lip about it? If no why?

I’ll talk to anyone that asks. I love to share what I have learned over the years with someone that wants to know. I won’t approach someone new & just start blurting the fact that I’m a writer. I love that at signings, at least one writer always shows up. Not to buy your book, to ask you how you did it.

      2.       What book/s are you currently writing and what is it about?

I’m working on a sequel to a thriller. I don’t have #1 published yet, but part 2 was nagging at me so I’m going while the spirit (or muse) moves me. My MC, Hailey, stumbles on a bag of money and Parker helps her flee when the men involved come after her.  The twists and turns it took surprised even me. The way I tied them together and the things I put them through honestly made this one of my favorites. Thriller are more my thing. There is still a slight romantic element, of course, but a lot more action.

My May 25^th release is Money Didn’t Buy Her Love.

Blurb: Trying to get his bearings on an unfamiliar street and not paying attention, Jeremy slams his breaks to avoid hitting the most beautiful bride he has ever seen. When Danielle climbs in his truck, he assumes she’s in a hurry to get to her wedding; he didn’t realize she was escaping one.  As the days pass, Jeremy finds it harder to fight off her passes and claims of falling in love with him. Besides having almost ten years on her, Jeremy discovers the family secret she had been trying to hide. How could the daughter of a billionaire settle for a plumber living paycheck to paycheck?

 Despite every tactic her father throws at her and an ex-fiancé who refuses to let her go, Dani stakes her claim to the only thing she has ever truly wanted in her life and fights to make Jeremy hers.

      3.       Why this particular genre?

I don’t know what it is about me that loves to write feisty women. Or maybe it’s that I like to write men that love them unconditionally despite it. In any case, the romance genre is what steals my heart when I write.

     4.       What inspire or motivate you to write?

I’d have to say the characters. Every novel starts with 1 simple idea – the characters take it from there. In this book, all I envisioned was a guy slamming his brakes to avoid hitting someone not paying attention. Suddenly she was in a wedding dress. Dani’s character grew from there. I love when I get unexpected twists. It’s like I’m reading it - not writing it.

      5.       What is the writing process like for you?

When I get to settle into my writing, I read the last page or so to see where I left off and then just keep going. I’m not an outliner at all. Rarely do I have a few notes that I want to follow or somewhere in particular I need it to go. It gets there when it’s darn good and ready.

     6.       What is the best and/ or worst part of being a writer?

Of course when someone loves your story, thanks you for the great read or great cry – it’s awesome. When someone picks apart something small, as if they read it with just that intention, it burns. You know going in that not everyone is going to like your work but it’s still a downer, no matter how much you think it’s coming.

      7.       Any advice for struggling writers?

I guess the old “Don’t give up” is what holds true. Hearing “No” constantly wears you out. Putting yourself out there takes guts. You have to be ready for rejection & criticism. You may think you’re a patient person, but nothing can compare you to waiting for everything & the one thing you want is just one step away. And then one more. Shampoo, rise, repeat.

      8.       What is your favorite genre to read or write?

Writing suspense/thrillers are what I have been leaning to lately. I’ll always have some romantic element, but I love the “Biting your nails, can’t wait to see what happens to bad guy” element.

      9.       Favorite author?

John Sandford. I love to follow a series. I didn’t think I’d be a cop-thriller kinda gal, but I just love following his characters.

      10.   What do you like to do when not writing? 

When weather permits – you’ll find me on my dog, Ringo. Shhh… I haven’t told him he’s a horse.

      11.   Do you have a bucket list and would you share at least two things on it?

I really don’t have one. The only thing I really would love to do is travel. Pick any country with cool history & castles. Maybe someday time and money will allow it.

      12.   Most daring thing or experience you have done you would like to share?

I’m not much of a thrill seeker anymore. Growing up on Maui, there was always something for us to do that was dangerous or illegal. Jumping off bridges that people had been paralyzed doing just that, swimming through underground tunnels where people have drowned …. Yeah. Stuff you don’t tell Mom about for sure. Always wanted to hang glide or skydive but never got around to it. Now I don’t want to. LOL

      13.   This or that questions:

Most family is very supportive. I have an aunt that buys 12 copies every time I get something in print. Of course Mom & Dad want one as well as another aunt & uncle on my hubby’s side. Some just aren’t into it, though, & I just let it go and never bring it up. Clueless is a good word for some. They don’t get “me” the person (in case you didn’t get the memo, writers are odd) so they don’t think they’d be in to what I “do” with that.

Yes it does, I usually get 'oh you're so and so's famous friend.

      2.       In general do you like to talk about your writing and published books or are you very close-lip about it? If no why?

I've never been the type of person to race out and get in someone's face if you know what I mean. I'm not good at self promotion. If they want to know about what I write I tell them. I even hand out cards so they can follow up and buy my books. I'm not too sure who gets the biggest buzz, me or them.

      3.       What book/s are you currently writing and what is it about? At the moment I have a couple of books on the go. My latest contemporary romance 'Outback Gold' is top of the list. Another book set in my favorite desert home. Outback Thunder was released last week.

      4.       Why this particular genre?

I was always told to write what you know. I'm a country girl, always have been so that's what I write.

      5.       What inspire or motivate you to write?

It can be something as simple as hearing a song or seeing a lovely landscape.

      6.       What is the writing process like for you?

Usually the first part of the book goes really fast and I can then see where I'm heading. The part I have the most trouble with is the middle of the book. Those are the days that I drag the words out and you have to keep going. It usually works out in the end.

      7.       What is the best and/ or worst part of being a writer?

The best part for me is research. Love going out and seeing what I can use in my books. As we speak I'm on my way to Sydney to see the Greek exhibit for research into a paranormal series I'm writing.

      8.       Any advice for struggling writers?

Yes, don't give up, EVER. Unless you don't really want to be a writer that is. Then feel free to play at it and brush it aside. But seriously, it's not easy. Like any job you have to work at it.

      9.       What is your favorite genre to read or write?

I love paranormal, young adult or adult.

      10.   Favorite author?

Way too many to say but I love when I find a new one to add to my list. Last year was Deborah Harkness.

      11.   Do you have a favorite spot to read and write?

I write everywhere, even the car when we travel.

    

      12.   Do you have a bucket list and would you share at least two things on it?

I don't have one really, I just go with the flow. There are some things I want to do and I will get around to it. Balloon flight and going to Italy are a couple of things I want next year.

      13.   What have you done so far on this list?

A lot of travel, getting my first book published, going to the States, doing the trip down the San Francisco coast.

      14.   Most daring thing or experience you have done you would like to share?

I'm a woose, I don't do anything out there.
